Bjork is Back!

The 55th Annual GRAMMY nominations were announced last night. Some interesting surprises and omissions (as usual).

For the full list, go here.

The GRAMMYS used to give out awards in 107 categories! It was quite  a chore to look through all of the nominees in each category (do the math!). But last year they decided to trim them down to 81, a much more civilized number. Even so, only about 12 awards are actually given out live on TV (February 10, 2013 on CBS).

My thoughts: The usual suspects were nominated in R&B and for album and song of the year. No surprise to see Jay-Z with 6 nods, The Black Keys. or Taylor Swift.  Nice to see Maroon 5 on the list, as well as Frank Ocean and Kelly Clarkson.

Best Pop Solo will be interesting: Adele vs Kelly will probably cancel each other out  (as will Katy Perry and Rhianna) and Carly Rae Jepsen may take that category. Traditional Pop was the most boring list I’ve ever seen! Two Christmas CDs and Paul McCartney. That was it! They were only able to find THREE artists for that category? Music is in a sad state. JMHO

But wait! Bjork is back! That’s right, in the Alternative Music Cat. she was nominated so all is right with the world (I think).

Meanwhile, First Lady Michelle Obama was nominated for her Spoken Word album American Grown. I would love to see her show up to the Grammys, wouldn’t you?

What are your thoughts about the noms?  PS  I heard about the UPROAR today that Justin Beiber received NO nominations. Go light that candle in mourning…an then get over yourself.

  1. I guess I’m an old fuddy duddy cuz I love watching this show! It’s one of the few awards shows where the majority of the show is the performances. It’s a rare thing to have a country singer followed by an opera star or a pop singer followed by a latin group. It’s just kinda cool.
